RATING MODULAR FACTORY BLOGS

Many modular factories now have a blog either built into their website or linking to one.

I have been preaching the need for factories to have one for quite some time and I thought I would take a look at some and give them a "Gold Star", "Silver Star" or No Star.

My criteria is rather subjective. I am looking for something that promotes both the factory brand and modular homes in general. Today's buyer's use the Internet and want to read current events, especially about a company that they might use to build their new home. The factories with "no stars" might want to jump into the blog business soon.

I used the list of factories on my blog.

Gold Star!

  • Barvista - Here is the link to Barvista's Wordpress blog. Very nice!
  • Excel Homes - They have one of the best blogs, ModularMusings, in the industry featuring both their products and services along with news of the whole industry and help for the prospective buyer.
  • HandCrafted Homes - Another good blog. It takes a minute to locate the link on their website but it is current and relevant. Click Here to read blog.
  • Huntington Homes - There is a link to their blog at the top of the home page but it needs to updated on a regular basis. Good information, just not enough of it.
  • Signature Custom Homes - They have a direct link to their blog from the home page. Good information and everything works easily but I wish they would update it more often.
  • Wisconsin Log Homes - They have a blog called the "Founder's Log Home Blog" but you really have to search for it at the bottom of the home page.

Silver Star!

  • Blue Ridge Log Cabins - They have enough stuff on their website to start a good blog but it's all over the place. A little organization could create a good blog.
  • Epoch Homes - The have a section called NEWS which could become a blog with little effort. Their news is timely however.
  • Genesis Homes - They have a ton of information on their site that is updated with articles but it is not in any single place.
  • Keiser Homes - If they were to simply change the link marked "news" to the word "blog", they would have made my Gold Star list.
  • Simplex Homes - Lots of good information on the site but it would be better if it were in one place.
No Stars!
  • All American Homes
  • Apex Homes
  • Appalachian Log Homes
  • Beracah Homes
  • Cardinal Homes
  • Commodore
  • Contempri Homes
  • Crest Homes
  • Design Homes
  • Foremost Industries
  • Forest Homes
  • Heckaman Homes
  • Icon Legacy
  • Kuhns Log Homes
  • Linwood Homes
  • Manorwood Homes
  • MSI (Durabuilt Homes)
  • Nationwide Homes
  • New England Homes
  • New Era Homes
  • Palm Harbor
  • Pengrove Building Systems
  • Pennwest Homes
  • Preferred Building Systems
  • Premium Building Systems
  • ProBuilt Homes
  • Ritz-Craft Homes
  • Safeway Homes
  • Stratford Homes

Coach, this is a unique study. I'll bet that a couple of the no star guys will look at putting a blog on their site.

It appears as if you were behind the Excel blog; or, that you and Excel share some storylines. Regardless I think they have a nice blog.

Signature seems TO HAVE HAD a nice blog but it has not been updated since 9-20. I guess with things being so bad they had to lay off the person responible for the blog.
Plus the heading on their home page is EXCELLENCE AWARD WINNERS, 2009. So nothing exciting has happended since the October 20, 2009?

Thank you for the compliment about writing the Excel blog but alas it is not me. They use a PR firm that is sharp enough to listen to the people at the factory and write good, timely articles.

I do write articles for other companies' blogs but only one is in our industry.

What a unique idea...listening to the people at the factory. Who would ever consider taking into consideration the thoughts and ideas of those people who have the quality of the product literally in their hands?
