California Raises the "Energy" Bar for New Homes

To hell with how much it will raise the price of new homes, California is poised to enact new energy requirements for homes built after Jan 1, 2014.  I'm having trouble deciding who is more to blame for buyers not looking at new homes, the government regulators or the tightening of credit by the banks.

When the new regulations go into effect, all new homes built in CA will be required to have solar array ready roofs, whole house fans and more energy efficient windows.  Add in any other nonsense items that the state wants to throw into new home construction before then and you've got one more reason that new home construction is going to take a while to return to healthy numbers.

I think modular homes is one of the answer to this. The housing market on this type of home is increasing.
