A Look Inside Amazon's Shipping Department

I have always been fascinated by production lines and automated shipping and storage. I had the privilege of standing inside a Kellogg's warehouse many years ago and watching the automated pickers filling orders of pallets loaded with cereal. I also watched automated skids going around in the American Woodmark warehouse in Winchester, VA years later.  I'm sure both of these warehouses have either been renovated or closed since then.

Then I discovered production home building and wondered why anyone would build any other way. Watching a Champion Home factory turning out several complete homes every day from a single production line introduced me to this world we call "modular housing." Since then I have been in over two dozen factories, some large, some small but all building great homes.

So when I came across this article, I just couldn't help but be mesmerized by the sheer size and volume Amazon stores and ships every day.  Please take a few minutes to read the article...The Massive Scale of Amazon's Distribution Operation.
