Pro Built Homes Builds Their Last Home --- Maybe

I just confirmed that Dick Schmidt, the owner of Pro Built Homes in Mifflintown, PA has closed the doors on his factory with the last house rolling out the doors last Friday.

No further details are available but I'll continue to get more information and let everyone know what is happening.

*****************UPDATE*************************
Nothing new to report as of today - Tuesday June 4th

If anyone knows what is happening with ProBuilt, please drop MODCOACH a line as the rumors are beginning to fly.

You are correct. There are just too many towns in that area that have similar names. Corrected.

I would hate to be the person that got that last home.

You may want to reach out to your contacts at Excel Homes. I am sure they have knowledge of the details/background surrounding the closing of ProBuilt Homes.

I was involved in the building of the last home from ProBuilt and can guarantee you that it was built to the same level of quality ProBuilt had come to be known for. I'd like to also note that the people left in the final weeks of production are some of the best in the business and wish them all the best.

Coincidentally or perhaps not, the sales reps are now working for Excel Homes. Dick Schmidt must have cut a deal . . . wonder what promises were made to him?

We have a 6 box home built by ProBuilt, 20 Industrial Circle, Mifflintown, Pa., Many issues with it, whether builder or installer/dealer issue is difficult to prove. Heart sick for my kids. Vent in wrong spot(where garage meets side of house, siding wrinkled and pcs have blown off, front door leaks, 2 windows have broken, roofing has blown off, stair hallway wall where boxes come together is very uneven, hallway tile grout has broken out. House was ordered with many upgrades. Anyone with bright ideas?

I had home built by them as well. My roof has been torn off four times and is still very bad. We had a structural engineer come in and he found many problems, one being the roof is at least one foot of center. Now we have to tear off the whole roof including rafters and start over. Major expense glad Dick got ALL his money. A lot of broken promises by Dick Schmidt. He promised to make it right but instead closed his doors and said it was my problem. WORSE COMPANY EVER !!! BUYER BEWARE

and Here I thought ours was the only crappy house they built. Very enlightening. House is uneven, front door failed in less then 8 years, windows don't close properly. we have a bump in the floor that runs the length of the house. i could go on and on.....
