Ritz-Craft Homes Expanding their Mifflinburg, PA Plant

Sixty jobs are coming to Mifflinburg as a Ritz-Craft production facility that went dark seven years ago amid the housing downturn will come back on line during the next few months, company officials announced Tuesday.

Extensive upgrades are needed to incorporate current technology into Plant No. 2, General Manager Steve Forcheskie said. When done, that operation “has the potential to double our production capacity” in Mifflinburg, he said.

A “tremendous rebound in housing demand” is the catalyst, Forcheskie said. “We are approaching maximum capacity in our current Mifflinburg facilities.”

Plant No. 3 is making building products, and Plant No. 1 is finishing them. The homes are assembled at the building site.

The new, full-time workers will help upgrade Plant No. 2, which will be expanded and receive some new equipment, Forcheskie said. Although Plant No. 2 went inactive just seven years ago in 2007, technology and products have significant changed, Forcheskie said.  The market had moved toward more custom homes, he said.

Ritz-Craft currently employs 278 people, and officials look forward to the new hires.
“It’s great to be able to help the community and help that many people get back to work, help that many families,” Forcheskie said.

Donald Alexander, director of the Union County Economic Development Office, said the announcement is “truly exciting.”

Ritz-Craft’s expansion “is a true testament to the quality of their product, which in turn is a testament to their skilled and dedicated workers,” he said. “I see their resiliency and renewed growth as harbingers of more good things happening in our area.”

Ritz-Craft officials want to start working on new hires as early as next week, Forcheskie said, and will conduct hiring and training in the late fall and early winter and into 2015.
To apply for one of the 60 positions, go to the Ritz-Craft corporate office at 15 Industrial Park Road in Mifflinburg for an application.

Applications also may be submitted online through www.ritz-craft.com, under the “employment opportunities” area, found under the “contact” tab.

Ritz-Craft is a family owned company and marks its 60th year in business in 2014.

It remains one of the few privately owned modular home manufacturers in the United States.
