Really! A $39,900 Modular Home

I just received the following Press Release about this wonderful $39,900 true modular home. I've been writing quite a bit about Tiny Houses and this one seems like it falls into this category. I'm just not sure who they are targeting. I think they need to hire an Architect to design their home instead of just having their $39.95 drafting program do it.

I will say this however. At $72 a sq ft, it is a fantastic bargain compared to the typical Blu Home at $300 a sq ft. Change the roof and add a window wall to the front and you have a Blu Home.

New England Modular Homebuilder Introduces a $39,900 House

Yorkville Modular Homes today introduced its newest affordable modular house. Priced at $39,900 and featuring a bedroom, a living room, a kitchen and a full bathroom, the 550 square foot Yorkville I modular home, can be delivered to the customer in 40 days.

The attractively priced Yorkville I is one of the most affordable modular homes on the market and comes fully loaded, including: insulated walls, shingled roof, vinyl siding, laminate flooring, ENERGY STAR certified windows, kitchen cabinets, kitchen counter, four standard kitchen appliances, and all bathroom fixtures. The homeowner will need to provide land and is responsible for site preparation, foundation or basement, utilities connections, delivery and installation fees and applicable taxes.

"We are thrilled to introduce our newest model," said Lou Gougeon, a modular construction industry veteran and Yorkville I's chief designer. "With high quality construction, precision in-house engineering, reduced construction time and low price, the Yorkville I modular home is a great option for first time buyers or environmentally aware consumers looking to reduce their carbon footprint."

Modern 21st century modular house construction is an inherently "green" process. It generates less waste because the factory uses computer aided design, precise machinery and continuous inspections during assembly. Additionally, engineering enhancements, latest construction technologies and increased insulation in the walls significantly increase the energy-efficiency of modular homes.

"Our product is affordable, high quality and built to all the high code standards of New England. The factory uses computer assisted production and assembly line systems to minimize waste (that is mostly recycled). The modules are shrink wrapped to prevent damage during transportation," said Gougeon.

Modular construction offers numerous other benefits to owners. The houses are fabricated in climate-controlled factories, using the same materials and designing to the same codes and standards as conventionally site-built homes. As an added benefit, removing up to 80 percent of the construction activity significantly reduces site disruption, vehicular traffic and improves overall safety and security.
