PA Modular Factory Plans to Reopen World Famous Wood-Mode Cabinet Factory

A Middleburg, PA business owner says he has a signed agreement in principle to buy the assets of Wood-Mode Inc. and plans to reopen the plant that was closed abruptly May 13.

“It will be a challenge in many ways,” Bill French, owner of Professional Building Systems, said Friday about getting the custom wood cabinet plant back into operation.

Professional Building Systems, a huge modular commercial and housing manufacturer, has been in business since 2000. It manufactures modular homes and apartments.

French said he is optimistic the deal will go through, noting that Wood-Mode’s principal lender, the Great Rock investment firm, has signed the agreement.

It is French’s plan to start small, but his future plans include employing between 200 and 500 people.

He already is reaching out to the 938 former Wood-Mode employees, some of whom have found other jobs, advising them of the purchase agreement and telling them he will begin to offer them jobs a few positions at a time.

“I look forward to working with many of you to build a successful company,” he told them on the Wood-Mode Friends Facebook page.

French also is contacting dealers, telling them he anticipates the purchase will be completed in the next two weeks. It’s in the hands of the lawyers, he said.

Many of the dealers have unfinished orders in the plant because the employees were told to leave the facility immediately after being told it was closing.

Peg and I want to give a big "Thank You Bill" for keeping one of the most recognized names in Kitchen Cabinetry in PA. We wish you the very best.

Bill--Just wanted to commend you for keeping an iconic entity in business. Hopefully you can retain the skilled workforce that has made Wood Mode a standard of the cabinet industry for so many years. It's just great to see you taking the risk to keep the Wood Mode name alive. Good luck and way to go.
