The owner wanted a home that was cost effective with an energy efficient building envelope. They turned to Huntington Homes to build the envelope using modular construction and the owner did all the interior finish work. His dad loved the idea.
Last year in the fall of 2014 Huntington Homes built the modules, delivered and set the the home. The structure was the owner received was secure, air tight and water tight. The owner and his father took over the project and installed their own flooring, stairs, cabinets, built-ins, siding, porch, etc. We all know how those New Englanders want to do as much as they can for themselves.
The building envelope features; Double Stud walls with R41 Dense Pack Cellulose, Integrity Triple pane windows, and real attention to air sealing. The finished 1,470 sq ft home has 3 bedrooms and 1 1/2 baths.
Mid Construction this home tested at 1.1 ACH50. This was before the basement had been insulated and rim joist air sealed. The Owner has installed a propane stove for some ambiance heating, but the primary heating system is a cold weather Air Source Heat Pump. No boiler system is installed in this home. The owner reports that last winter the ASHP had “no problem” keeping up and you all remember how cold and snowy is was in Vermont.
